At the Seminar on "Security Policy in Northeast Asia" organized by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 6 November, 2009, Chinese Ambassador to Norway, H.E. Mr. Tang Guoqiang, introduced China's perspectives on the current situation in Northeast Asia as well as the diplomatic efforts made by China in this region.
Japanese Ambassador to Norway, H.E. Mr. Hisao Yamaguchi, and South Korean Ambassador to Norway, H. E. Mr. Byung-koo Choi, were also co-speakers at the Seminar.
In his speech, Ambassador Tang pointed out that, in recent years, most countries have sticked to the path of peace and development, expanded economic and trade cooperation, and taken part actively in building up a regional security pattern, which all contributed to a situation favorable to the peace and stability in the region.
Ambassador Tang also introduced China's stance on the nuclear issue on the Korea Peninsular and the efforts China has made to resolve the problem. In addition, Ambassador Tang elaborated China's foreign policies and diplomatic practices on developing good-neighborly relations, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation and establishing a multilateral security mechanism in Northeast Asia.
Ms. Elisabeth Walaas, State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the seminar and made the opening remarks. Among the audiance were officials from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, and some ambassadors and consellors serving in the Norwegian embassies in Asian countries.
