Statement by the Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Norway regarding Ms. Reiss-Andersen's Latest Remarks
2018/07/12

China is firmly opposed to the remarks made by Ms. Berit Reiss-Andersen, Chairwoman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee on July 10, which has distorted the facts, viciously slandered and made provocations against the Chinese government. Her words fully revealed her arrogance and prejudice against China. China's development, including the progress made in the field of human rights, is achieved through hard work by the Chinese people. It has always been the untiring pursuit of the Chinese government to promote and protect human rights and let our people live a happy life with dignity. The Chairwoman poses herself as the spokesperson for China's human rights, which is ridiculous and laughable.
As is known to all, the Nobel Committee's awarding of the 2010 Peace Price seriously violated China's sovereignty and wantonly interfered in China's internal affairs, which had severely damaged the relations between China and Norway. Only after unremitting efforts from the both sides for as long as six years, had the normalization of our bilateral relations been realized. At present, the China-Norway relationship has been fully resumed and is developing in a flourishing manner. This is a hard-earned achievement. We hope that relevant parties in Norway will earnestly treasure the current positive picture of our bilateral cooperation, do more things conductive to the development of relations between our two countries rather than the other way around.
