China Film Festival Opens in Oslo

On April 14, 2024, the China Film Festival (Norway) opened in Oslo. Chinese Ambassador to Norway Ms. Hou Yue, and Deputy Director General of the China Film Administration Ms. Luo Yang attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. More than 100 guests from all walks of life in Norway attended the event and watched the film "One and Only".

Ambassador Hou wished the film festival a great success and said that China and Norway have a long history of exchanges in the field of film. As yet another cultural feast to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Norway, the films selected for this festival cover diverse genres of contemporary Chinese films, depicting Chinese culture and society from a broad perspective. They will open a new window for Norwegian audiences to catch a glimpse of what China and Chinese people are like. It is hoped that through this film festival, China-Norway cultural exchanges and cooperation could be further deepened and people from both sides could be brought closer.

Ms. Luo said that as a unique art form, film has the special ability to transcend borders, convey emotions and connect hearts. Film festivals can help to build a bridge for cultural exchanges between China and Norway. In recent years, the Chinese film industry has experienced significant growth and the film market is full of vitality. It is hoped that Norwegian audiences can enjoy more Chinese films and excellent Norwegian films are always welcome on Chinese screens.

The opening ceremony featured a dynamic street dance performance inspired by the theme of the film "One and Only", followed by a Chinese Kung Fu demonstration by the Oslo Wushu Team, which pushed the event to its climax. After the screening, the audiences enjoyed Chinese cuisine while engaging in discussions about the film. They said that this Chinese film is well-made and they could understand China more intuitively through watching films. They look forward to seeing more Chinese films in Norway.

The China Film Festival is co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in Oslo and the China Film Administration. The event will last until April 19. In addition to "One and Only", other Chinese films including "The Wandering Earth 2", "Papa", “Creation of the Gods 1”, “Lighting up the Stars”, and "Love Never Ends" will also be screened.
