A Reception for the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai

On April 22, 2010, Ambassador Tang Guoqiang and Mrs. Tang hosted a reception in the Chinese Embassy in honour of the forthcoming World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. A photo exhibition of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai was also held in the Embassy.

At the reception, best wishes were extended to a successful World Expo and to Norway's successful participation in this event.

In his toast, Ambassador Tang said that the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai presented a good opportunity for China to know the world and also for the world to know China. Hosting such an event examplified China's resolve to continue its reform and the opening-up policy and to further strengthen China's cooperation with the world. The World Expo would be a further spring board for future cultural and economic partnership between China and the rest of the world, and it would enhance the understanding and friendship among the people of the world and help the world economy to a full recovery. The Chinese Government and the Chinese people would do their best to host a most specular and successful World Expo. Ambassador Tang complimented Norway's active participation in the World Expo. The unique Norwegian Pavilion expressed the concept of sustainable development. Ambassador Tang believed that the World Expo would further strengthen the mutual undertanding and friendship between the people of the two countries, promote the cooperation between China and Norway, and creat the better future for the bilateral relations.

Mrs. Rikke Lind, State Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, said in her toast that China's economy had developed fast in recent years with great achievements. The Norwegian Government attached great importance to the bilateral relations and hoped to further strengthen and enhance the exchanges and cooperation with China. Now China is Norway's most important trading partner in Asia, and enterprises in both countries are showing increasing interests to each other's market. Noway has great expectations for the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. She believed that the forthcoming World Expo would be crowned with great success just as the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Meanwhile, Norway hoped to take this opportunity to further strengthen good relations and cooperation between the two countries and their enterprises.

Mr. Robin Martin Kåss, State Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Engergy, Mr. Bjørn T. Grydeland, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Herik O. Madsen, Chairman of the Board for Norway in the World Expo, and others from the Norwegian government, business circle, academics, media and representatives from various Norwegian organizaitons participating in the world Expo 2010 in Shanghai attended the reception.
