Recently, the Chinese Embassy has been approached by Norwegian media requesting interviews on the issues such as Beijing Olympic Games, riots conducted by Tibetan separatists and China-Norway bilateral relationship etc. For the purpose of making the Norwegian public better informed, and explaining our position, H.E. Chinese Ambassador to Norway, agreed to accept the interviews and answered questions online as requested. Her intention of doing so is to let more people know that Beijing Olympics is a joyful event not only for the Chinese people, but for the world people as well. And we would do our best to make it a success. However, Tibetan separatists and other anti-China forces attempt to sabotage the Olympics and tear our country apart. As for our bilateral relationship with Norway, we have always been attaching great importance. Norwegians are most welcome to visit China as business people, tourists and students.

 

Nevertheless, regrettably, some facts from the interviews have been distorted which serve the purpose of misleading the general public. For instance, the headlines of some reports claim sensationally that the Chinese Ambassador "warns" Norway, and "threatens to abolish a trade agreement worth billions between China and Norway". We have, on our side, sufficient evidence to prove that those "quotations" were completely fabricated and are totally groundless. Such practice runs counter to the media ethics. Therefore, we urge the relevant media and individuals to make a prompt public apology, and correct their wrong-doings.

 

We welcome objective opinions with good intention including criticisms, but oppose to prejudice and vicious attacks.

Here we would, in particular, like to mention that shortly after the interviews and publications, many kind blessings and warm wishes to the Chinese people and to the Beijing Olympics have been sent to the Embassy through various channels. We would like to, once again, express gratitude to our Norwegian friends. Tusen takk.
